Engelberg

Engelberg, 'Angel Mountatin', was so-named by the founders of the imposing Benedictine monastery, set in central Switzerland.

There is a cable car offering 360 degrees' panoramic views to the top of Mount Titlis (9,926ft). The Kitzeltrail ('tickle path'), accessible by the Brunni mountain chairlift station(15/20 minuted from hotel), takes you on a barefoot walk round idyllic Lake Harzlisee at 1,860 metres above sea level.

Engelberg to Lucerne, by road or narrowgauge railway, can take as little as one hour.
